The Sergey Vavilov cruise ship is powered by a 6,700 kilowatt diesel twin engine, boasts an ice-strengthened hull, and a cruising speed in open waters of 13 knots. Its similar sister ship is the Akademik Ioffe. Both boats are fully equipped with all the amenities to make your Antarctica cruise as comfortable as possible.

Refurbished in 2003, Sergey Vavilov has a beautiful dining room on the main deck, large enough to seat all passengers at one time. Other common spaces include a cozy bar for 25 people located on the 6th deck, from where you can enjoy a beverage and spectacular panoramic views, or perhaps watch the television monitor to see the ship’s progress and location. Guests can also enjoy use of the lounge (equipped with a television, piano, and various games, maps, and puzzles), the small gymnasium, and the sauna. There is also a small clinic onboard with a certified doctor.

Expert naturalists and historian comprise the crew and are here to provide passengers with lectures about the fascinating wildlife, geography, climate and history of the Antarctic continent.

Sergey Vavilov is fitted to carry 107 passengers. All cabins have individual temperature controls and exterior views. There are several categories of cabins to choose from: twin and triple cabins(with either shared or semi-private facilities), superior cabins (with private facilities and writing desk, and 2 suites (equipped with separate sleeping quarters, private facilities, fridge, TV screen, and VCR) . All rooms are smoke-free, and bed linens and towels are changed twice a week.
