Buenos Aires, nicknamed The Paris of South America, is one of the most European cities in all of South America. But of course, as the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires also has a distinct Latin American feel. Tango houses delight and dazzle visitors nearly every night of the year, and every spring, ambitious Latin American tango dancers compete in elaborate, highly-energized tango dance competitions. And when a futbol game is under way in the La Bombonera stadium, the whole city – almost the whole country – stops to watch the game. And the food! The Argentines know how to throw a barbeque, or asado, with steak and lamb grilled to perfection.
Straddling the Argentina-Brazil border, the Iguazu Falls lie about 11 miles upstream from the confluence of the Rio Iguazu and the Rio Alto Parana. This lush region makes for some of the most beautiful parks and vistas in South America. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984, the Iguazu Falls and the surrounding grounds have been preserved in two national parks. The Parque Nacional Iguazu covers 167,092 acres of jungle that visitors can hike or take the Tren de la Selva, stopping along the way to spot the wildlife in this Argentina natural wonder.
