Destinations-Paraty

Paraty is a colonial relic, well preserved and architecturally unique. Moreover, it is located on the tropical green coast, on a huge bay with hundreds of little forested islands and crystal clear waters. The natural harbor of Paraty was an important port for goods to the mining cities in Minas Gerais and to ship the mined gold to Portugal. At the end of the 17h century Paraty was one of the most important harbors in Brazil . Its glory however did not last long; when a new road opened from Minas Gerais to Rio the city lost its function. Paraty is famous for its cobblestone streets, which are laid down in such a way that the high tide washes away the dirt.
- ACCESS ROUTES
Paraty is roughly halfway between Rio and Sao Paulo, with frequent bus services to both cities (Rio 4,5 hours, Sao Paulo 6 hours).
- ACCOMMODATION
Many pousadas and basic accommodations, some very good 3- and 4-stars. There are no 5-star hotels.
- WHEN TO GO
Paraty gets crowded during Brazilian holidays, rates tend to raise a lot during these periods. Climatologically the city can be visited all year round.
- HOW LONG
We recommend a minimum of 1 to 2 days as this really is a beautiful location with a lot to see and do.
