The frontier is only an hour away by bus and approximately 4 hours from Puno in Peru. The town is famous for its ornate Moorish-style Cathedral. Built in the 17 th century, the cathedral is home to the 16 th century Virgen de Candelaria also known as the Dark Virgin of the Lake, who is attributed to working many miracles.
