Mendoza is one of Argentina’s most beautiful cities. It is a bustling and energetic metropolis that basks daily in a perpetually warm and sunny climate. It rests at the feet of the majestic Andes, under the continent’s highest peak – Aconcagua - which stands at a towering 22,835 ft/6,960 m. It is a modern city filled with tree lined avenues, parks, and plazas. The surrounding suburbs overflow with gardens and orchards whilst just outside of the town lie many picturesque and world famous wineries, which make Mendoza the ‘wine capital’ of Argentina. Nearby is the Christ the Redeemer Statue and the Puente del Inca, a natural stone bridge 150 ft/45 m long and about 90 ft/25 m high, beneath which are nestled ancient Inca ruins. Mendoza’s pleasant weather is also ideal for many outdoor activities, and there are many options in close proximity - such as mountain climbing, trekking, river rafting, wind sailing, and several world class ski destinations.
- ACCESS ROUTES
Mendoza is located at 980 km / 610 miles North West of Buenos Aires and can be reached over land and by air. There are daily buses to Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile and most other local destinations in Argentina; as well as daily flights to Buenos Aires.
- ACCOMMODATION
Mendoza has seen a boom in international (mainly Chilean and Brazilian) tourism in the past 3 years (since the economic breakdown) and there are many new great value hotels. There are also some nice hosterias and posadas outside of town, and wonderful wineries where you can spend nights enjoying greats views of the Andes and tasting their excellent wines.
- WHEN TO GO
Mendoza can be visited year round, but is best during summertime, from October to April when the temperature is the most agreeable. If you are traveling to Mendoza to ski, the best time to go is between mid June and late August. If you are planning to travel during the first week of March, book in advance, as the Harvest Festival is quite an important event that makes hotels and flights difficult to find at the last minute.
