This “Paris” of the Americas - as it is known for its architecture that is reminiscent of the design of the “City of Lights” – has so much to offer that it deserves a lengthy stay to see it all.
Known for its vibrancy and color, the streets of Buenos Aires beckon to be explored and admired. Stroll the pedestrian-only Caminito street to catch spontaneous tango dancers and do as Argentinos do by popping into one of the many cozy cafes that the dot the way.
A great way to compliment your time in this colorful capital is with a visit to the city’s growing ecological reserve. With numerous trails that are perfect for strolling, bird watching and cycling, the Reserva Ecologica Costanera Sur is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, situated in the dock district of Puerto Madero.
While there are numerous important historic monuments within the downtown area to be seen, such as the 220 foot Obelisco and the peaceful Cementerio de la Recoleta, travelers to this metropolis would not receive an authentic Buenos Aires vacation experience without also checking out a sensual Tango show or dining on delicious steaks and sumptuous Argentine wines from a traditional style gaucho ranch in the Greater Buenos Aires area.
Being an avid Premier League Football follower I was lucky enough to see River take on the Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires, which I was told would be a big local derby. It didn't disappoint. The crowd was alive and electric. A little bit like going to a rock concert as opposed to a Football match, loads of flares and atmosphere. Buenos Aires is an amazing City, with good food (especially the steaks which are the most amazing I have ever tasted), good wine and friendly open people.

We had a great holiday and just about everything went like clockwork. Buenos Aires was very pleasant and we felt safe wandering around even at night. The highlight was probably the Tango Show. I'm not a fan of dancing normally, but the movement and music was exciting!

The quality of the hotels has been excellent and the service very warm and welcoming. Maybe this is also due to the Argentinean people who are very friendly, open-minded and helpful. In this respect, my hosts in Buenos Aires, Anabel and especially Martin have provided me with sound coordination and good insights in the life of the porteños and of the Argentinean people.
Chris Sharpe, Montreal, Canada
We all had a fantastic time and enjoyed Buenos Aires tremendously. We walked for miles exploring your parks, cemetery, museums and shops. The food was lovely and we found some excellent restaurants nearby.

#6: DISCOVER ARGENTINA
Visitors to the cosmopolitan capital of Argentina might think they’ve stumbled upon Europe and not Latin America. The ethnically diverse port city of Buenos Aires, which stretches along the southern shore of Rio de la Plata (Silver River), has a strong European influence with the majority of the population being of Italian, German or Spanish origin. As a result, the city’s architectural style heavily reflects Baroque and French Neoclassical models, giving justice to the city’s nickname as the “Paris of South America”.
The beautiful Porteños (people of the port) of Buenos Aires take pride in knowing that their city is the cultural hub of all Argentina. Here, travelers can try what are arguably the best cuts of meat in the world; dance the night away thanks to a thriving nightlife that rivals that of European capitals; visit some of the best art museums in all of Latin America; and see masters perform the world’s sexiest dance, the tango.
Football fans will recognize Buenos Aires, the city of “Fine Airs”, as the home to the world famous Boca Juniors football club, the club who gave birth to legendary football player Diego Maradona. Extreme sport fans who wish to trek the Patagonia and ski in Bariloche usually use this metropolis as the start-off point of their Argentina travel adventure; and with so much to see and do in capital city, it would perhaps be a mistake to start anywhere else.

* Downtown Avenida 9 de Julio is the widest street in the world, at an impressive sixteen lanes.
* Tango, both the music and its trademark dance steps, was born in Buenos Aires in the 1920s. At the time, tango was only found played in brothels and poorer suburbs, and hence frowned upon.
* The name Buenos Aires means ‘Fair Winds’ in Spanish, and the city derived its name from Nostra Signora di Bonaria, a sanctuary located in the Cagliari, Sardinia.
