
On the shores of the 216 square mile glacier fed Nahuel Huapi Lake, sits San Carlos de Bariloche - a first class tourist center with the famous winter ski resort of Cerro Catedral on its outskirts. Founded by Swiss and German settlers, Bariloche is a charming example of a chalet styled alpine town and much of its architecture - along the main street - reflects this. Chalet style restaurants serve superb fresh trout from the lake in addition to wild boar, venison prosciutto and a variety of fondues. The magnificent surrounding landscape presents multiple alternatives for the most varied of outdoor interests; Bariloche is ideal for the traveler that enjoys adventure, fishing, skiing, and trekking.
- GETTING AROUND
Bariloche is located at 1650 km / 1025 miles south east of Buenos Aires and can be reached by bus (regular services to al major cities) and by air: regular, direct flights to and from Buenos Aires (2hs 30min) and to other important destinations such as Cordova (2hs 30min), El Calafate (1hr 15min), Esquel (40min), San Martin de los Andes (25min) and Trelew (1hr 15min).

- WHEN TO GO
Bariloche is one of the most popular destinations for Argentines, so it is best to avoid traveling during the months of December, January and July, during which times it fills with secondary school students and vacationing Argentine families. The best two months for skiing are July and August, and for trekking, between December and March.

The ski center Gran Catedral is located 20 km from Bariloche and is probably one of the most developed resorts in South America. There are over 5,000 acres of skiable terrain, 50 trails and 33 lifts. Terrain for skiers and riders of all ability levels is available; over half is geared toward intermediates. Advanced skiers can choose from cruisers, moguls or off-piste. Cerro Catedral is the skier's paradise and the observer's delight.

| Cerro Tronador Tour: |
After breakfast, you will leave Bariloche heading south following route 258, which passes Lakes Gutierrez & Mascardi, up to the entrance of Tronador. After crossing the Rio Manso river bridge, we arrive at Pampa Linda, a lodge ideal for lunch with amazing views of the Tronador Mountain . After lunch, you will continue to Ventisquero Negro, which is in fact the Manso Glacier. Here you will see the three main peaks of Mount Tronador : Argentino (3410m), Internacional (3554m) & Chileno (3414m). After visiting Tronador and if climate permits, you head to Cascadas Los Alerces, a beautiful waterfall close to Lago Hess. Be ready to walk and take lots of photographs as this alpine eco-system as the impressive Andes Mountains make for compelling backdrop settings. You will be back in San Carlos de Bariloche around 18.00.

| Circuito Chico: |
This paradisiacal circuit will have you travel a total of 65 km, most of them along the Coast of Nahuel Huapi Lake . You will make your first stop at Playa Bonita at Km. 8, from where we will be able to view Huemul Island. Ten íkilometers ahead, you reach the foot of Campanario Hill, where a chairlift will take us to the top for magnificent views of the surrounding area. Afterwards you drive on to the Llao-Llao Peninsula, where you can stop and visit San Eduardo Chapel. Continuing with the itinerary, you pass the bridge that connects the Lakes Moreno and Nahuel Huapi and further ahead the bridge over Lake Moreno. Following the shoreline of Laguna El trébol, we finally head back to the city.

| Lake Crossing to Puerto Varas, Chile: |
Without a doubt, the "Lake District Crossing" is one of South America's most popular surface crossings via a series of motor launches and motor coaches through spectacular scenery - snow-capped mountain peaks, gloriously green forests and blue lakes.

Day 1:
You will cross from Bariloche to Puerto Panuelo, cruising on board a catamaran to Nahuel Huapi Lake to Puerto Blest. From here you will board a bus to Puerto Alegre, and then a boat to Puerto Frias, finally continuing to Peulla, Chile. You will overnight in a wonderful, old, rambling, spacious hotel in the tiny village of Peulla, set as mid-way stop through the lake district crossing. Hikes, waterfalls, and an abundance of natural scenery provide the (optional) activities of the area.
Day 2:
You will take a boat across Todos Los Santos Lake to Petrohue (optional visit of the Petrohue Rapids) and on to Puerto Varas; located some 985 km / 612 miles south of Santiago. Puerto Varas is located on Lake Llanquihue with spectacular views to Osorno Volcano. You can also continue to Puerto Montt; founded in 1853 on the site of a Mapuche community as part of the German colonization of the area. Fishing, river-rafting, hiking, horseback riding can all be arranged in the surrounding areas of both towns. Ask us about availability and prices.
